♪ the candidates can check the box now, guys. i know they were nervous yesterday. they would never admit it probably. but they have that first debate in the can now. >> one down, two to go. it all happened there at hofstra university last night. they're going to play it safe. this morning, we're going to detail it. when the two of them came out, it was surreal. there you've got the woman referred to donald trump as a sexist and racist the last year or so -- the last six months and then you've got him whose crowd has shouted lock her up and he calls her crooked hillary and there they were shaking hands. that's when it started. >> it reminded me of holy field tyson. you watched their careers but never fought each other.

the challenger. rather than the d.c. insider of 25 30rks years. >> she said go to my website for fact checking. i was a little disappointed with that. she said it was up to lester holt as a moderator to do the fact checking. now she's sending people to her website to do it. the viewers won't go read the facts. i think as a candidate they should know those facts going into the debate and they have to be prepared. because to me it's told me that she's sending to the website because there are people on her team. >> she was hoping lester holt would be on her team and in fact, lester holt, two things happened to him. the first half people felt like where is he, they're going back and forth. it was pretty good. the second half, people started to realize, wait a minute, he's not bringing up important things. brian, you mentioned the clinton foundation. where was that? where were the questions about the e-mail? benghazi? he was hammering trump but gave her a pat.

failure. i think -- a couple of things stuck out for me. number one, we're getting involved in a question nobody cares about. the beginning of the iraq war, what stand did a businessman have on that? really an easy question. the question is, what was your judgment when it came to the surge? you have to suspend disbelief to think we're going to win the war in iraq. guess what happened? they won with the war in iraq. she voted against the surge. barack obama against the surge. that's the modern kwechlt i'm really surprised we ended there. >> ask sean hannity. we've talked about in a million times. mentioned his name several times. >> take a look at some of the things donald trump was grilled on. the release of his tax returns, the iraq war, the birther thing which he says hillary's team started and bankruptcies and

after the debate donald trump's family was by his side as he was coming off the stage last night. we had a chance to speak with his son eric trump on how he thought his dad did. here's what he had to say. >> your dad on stage, how do you think he did and how do you think hillary did? >> i'm thrilled. we had big smiles on our faces. he was measured and respectful of her. i was proud of him when he walked off that stage. >> what moment stuck out the most tonight? >> i think when he was comparing taxes. we want to put people back to work in this country. hillary is talking about raising taxes on everybody. my father wants to reduce taxes across the board and put this nation back to work. it's very, very simple. >> hillary accused him of being unprepared, racist. what was your reaction. >> i think it's sad. she perpetrates it everywhere. she's suspending 3/4 of a billion dollars in negative ads. not one of them talks about her accomplishments being a politicians for 30 years. bombs going off in new jersey,

new york. stabbings in minnesota. the middle east is a hornet's nest and she runs negative ads about my father and hasn't fixed any of the problems. it's very sad. we need better leadership than that. >> she was fact checking and to defend herself. missed opportunities? >> i think what people saw tonight was the difference between april scripted candidate versus someone who speaks off the heart and the vest. that's the difference between a politician, somebody who has been in business their entire life and created tens of thousands of jobs. hillary signs the back of a check her entire life. never created one job. very different between the two candidates. >> people said he needed to stay cool and in control. he did tonight. wasn't as exciting of a debate to watch as some of the ones in the past where things got a little out of many instances

online polls show, according to the stuff we saw this morning, show that he's leading. it's not scientific. it's whoever has -- >> what did you think? >> you talk about being online. heather nauert lives online. in a virtual reality. >> of course. >> facebook, twitter, whatever. >> okay, brian. good morning to all of you. breaking details coming in over night in the shooting death of keith scott. police are now saying he was carrying a stolen gun when he was shot and killed in charlotte. a burglar telling police that he sold that gun to scott. scott's wife filed a restraining order against him last year. she told police he had a gun and hit her and threatened to kill her. we have new information on the body camera footage. it may be disturbing to see we warn you. police say there's no audio at the beginning of this because the officer didn't turn it on until after the shooting occurred. only video can be recovered from that time period and not the
